Wrinehill Pool

Brief description of fishery:

Located in a well sheltered valley close to the village of Betley, and just 15 minutes from Junction 16 of the M6, this picturesque pool is around five acres in size. The crystal-clear water provides an excellent home for specimen sized fish to grow and the surrounding shrub-land harbours a wealth of wildlife. Carp are the predominant species and are to be found to over 30lb. There are some lovely tench in excess of 7lb and perch over 3lb. Catfish in excess of 40 lbs add to the appeal, and let’s not forget the Roach, Rudd & Hybrids which have been caught to over 3lbs. Ample, secure on-site parking is provided and a well maintained path around the perimeter of the water provides easy access for those staying overnight.

Fish Size:

Carp range from mid doubles to over 30lb, Catfish to over 40lbs, Pike to low doubles, Tench to over 7lbs and Silvers to over 3lbs. 

Special Rules for this fishery:
  • When booking, you are booking a slot, not a specific peg – you choose your peg on the day.
  • All bookable day fishing slots are one hour before dawn till one hour after dusk and must depart no later than midnight, no return within 24-hours.
  • All bookable 24 hour night fishing slots are 10 am to 10 am next day, no arrival before 09:30 am, no return within 48-hours. Anglers must have their lines out of the water by the end of a session. Anglers arriving can place a bucket on any swim to reserve for fishing.
  • Members MUST cancel their appointment once their session has finished. 
  • Members MUST NOT block any footpaths
  • Junior non-members must fish the same peg as the Senior member responsible for them, the Senior member must hold a membership that allows them to fish Wrinehill Pool and use a maximum of 2 baited rods at any one time on the same peg. 
  • No fires
  • Take all excess bait home, do not put it in the lake
  • No pre baiting
  • No matches to be held on the water 
  • No fish to be kept in a sling or sacked up. 
  • No more than 12 anglers allowed at any one time on Wrinehill Pool. 
  • Fishing is from designated pegs only unless stalking in which case the permission of any nearby anglers must be sought. 
  • Cars must be parked in the allocated parking area and not driven around the pool.

All anglers, especially long stay anglers, must ensure their toiletry requirements are catered for in a way that does not cause any offence or hygiene hazard to any other person/property. Bailiffs will ask what provisions have been made to comply with this rule, if provisions are not considered adequate enough: members will be asked to leave the water. All foul waste must be bagged and removed by the member; failure to comply WILL result in a lifetime ban.

Heading south on the M6, leave at Junction 16 and take the A500 towards Crewe. At the first roundabout take the first exit (A531). At the next roundabout, again take the first exit (signposted Keele) and proceed for about 5 miles (through Betley village) and look out for a distinctive pub called The Hand and Trumpet on the right. About ¼ mile past this pub, turn right into Den Lane. Wrinehill Pool is located ¾ mile along this road on the left immediately after a railway bridge. The car park is located through the gates (club key required) and at the bottom left of a slope leading down to the water’s edge.
